Netscape Communications Corporation is the distributor of Netscape Navigator, the most popular Web browser.
Netscape Communications Corporation, based in Mountain View, California, was founded in April 1994 by Dr. James H. Clark, founder of Silicon Graphics, and Marc Andreessen, creator of the NCSA Mosaic browser for the Internet. The company has been a leader in the creation of client/server software, and a major force in the expansion of the Internet for commercial and business purposes.
Netscape produces the Netscape Navigator, the most widely used Web client browser, and associated server tools constituting the Netscape Applications Platform. Recent versions of Netscape Navigator have included innovative non-standard additions to HTML, such as textured backgrounds, accessible only by Netscape clients.
Version 1.2 of the Netscape Navigator supports International security with RSA Public Key Cryptography. Netscape Navigator 2.0 integrates a full suite of Internet applications -- including secure electronic mail, access to Usenet newsgroups, and interactive multimedia content such as Java Applets. Netscape Navigator Gold 2.0 provides all the capabilities of Netscape Navigator 2.0 plus integrated WYSIWYG document creation.
